Johnny Rose, shown here with his wife, Martha, was a Morgantown, Kentucky, native. He started playing guitar around age 18. He played with his grandfather, Lasso Rose and his father, Drua Rose. He played in several bands in his early life. A few of those played at Beach Bend where they had a regularly scheduled dance. Later he played gospel music with The Travelers Quartet and went on to form the Rose Band consisting of his children, Gigi, Philip, and Debbie along with his father, Drua. The band had a few different bass players including Darryl Dockery and Barry Embry. Johnny Watkins performed some vocals for the band in the early years. Later in life, Johnny enjoyed bluegrass music and enjoyed playing with the Leonard Oak Pickers. His influences included The Osborne Brothers, Ricky Skaggs, and Rhonda Vincent to name a few. Johnny Rose left a legacy that continues with his children in their support of talent in Butler County and South Central Kentucky, along with the love of music.
